This tutorial addresses the "connectors" available in the "interaction" module. In this video tutorial, through two examples, we will learn about some different types of connectors and their specification, and how to create them. The first sample discusses, how to create wire features, create and assign hinge, translate and beam connectors, how to assign coordinate and properties to the connectors, and how to display the connectors in the "visualization" module. Following figure illustrates this sample.
As it is clear, in this sample, behavior of a piston connected to two links will be simulated under the act of a rotary boundary condition on one of the links. Movement of the piston will put the spring (which resists against the movement of the piston) under load. So, by detecting this exerted load, movement of the piston and its linkage will be studied. In the second example we will learn how to simulate the gaps using connectors. Method of creating gaps is discussed thorough introducing the "Cartesian" connectors. In this example, two beam are modeled with a gap in between, then one of the beams is pulled and released and hence starts to vibrate. Then, because the vibration movement exceeds the gap size, the vibrating beam impacts the stationary beam and therefore that beam starts to vibrate. Along with introducing the gap modeling method, some points about modeling beams, adding inertia (point mass) to the model, creating wire features, and Cartesian connectors are presented.
